Ferromolybdenum Slag as Valuable Resource Material for the Production of Concrete Blocks

This paper discusses a case in which ferromolybdenum slag is successfully used to produce concrete “R-blocks”. Experiments were carried out in the factory to find the proper mix proportioning taking into account mechanical properties, texture of the block and technical aspects of the production. In general, the main goal was to achieve a similar particle size distribution of the resulting mix proportioning of the ‘R-block’ as for the production of concrete blocks with natural aggregates. To obtain a BENOR certification label, the test results had to comply with European and Belgian standard on masonry blocks in concrete. The environmental friendliness was also checked. The conclusion is that Ferromolybdenum slag is useful as aggregate in concrete blocks. Today, R-blocks are in production.
