Study on Oxidizing Roast of High Impurity Ferromolybdenum

Ferro molybdenum is an important iron-molybdenum alloy, with a molybdenum content of 60-75%. It is the main source for molybdenum alloying of HSLA steel.

The oxidizing roast of high impurity ferromolybdenum was studied by using rotary kiln. Experiments found that high impurity ferromolybdenum was softened at 350~450 ℃.Thus, the key to oxidize high impurity ferromolybdenum completely during roast was to avoid it softening at low temperature. The experimental results showed that the molybdenum leached from calcine was over 96% in water. The calcine was obtained by roasting the mixture of high impurity ferromolybdenum and machine activated sodium carbonate in air at 550~650 ℃ for 1~2 h. The addition of the sodium carbonate was taken according to the 70%~80% stoichiometric proportion of it reaction with Mo,P,As,Si,V in roasting.
