In addition to our common titanium zirconium molybdenum (TZM) alloy silicide coatings and aluminide coating alloy, also can add a small amount of silicon element in the aluminide coating to form aluminum - silicon composite coating.
Researchers using pack cementation method to produce aluminum-silicon composite coating on TZM alloy substrate. Aluminum-silicon composite coating composition phase will change with the temperature change. When the temperature at 1000 ℃, the coating inside and outside layer are MoSi2 and Mo (Si, Al) 2. And when the temperature at 1100 ℃, the inner and outer layer coating are Mo (Al, Si) and Mo (Si, Al) 2. When the temperature is lower than 1595 ℃, Mo (Si, Al) 2 tend to produce Al2O3. When the temperature is higher than 1595 ℃, Mo (Si, Al) 2 will produce rich Al2O3 liquid oxide. SiO2 and Al2O3 oxides have a self-healing function so they can effectively avoid the alloy substrate further oxidized.
Comparison Mo (Si, Al) 2 and MoSi2 coating was found, Mo (Si, Al) coating mechanical properties and oxidation resistance is better than 2 MoSi2 coating, especially when at 400 ~ 600℃, MoSi2 coating will generate discontinuous SiO2, but it can not avoid oxygen penetrate so it can lead to alloy substrate chalking.
