In titanium zirconium molybdenum (TZM) alloy when the titanium and zirconium elements react with carbon will generate fine and dispersed second phase- carbide phase, namely second phase strengthening, which can strengthen the TZM alloy.
After a lot of studies have shown that add a small amount of ZrC or TiC can to improve the relative density and tensile strength of TZM alloy. What’s more, when the ZrC or TiC’s adding mass is 0.4% the room temperature strength of the alloy reached the highest. Added ZrC or TiC particles can react with oxygen of TZM alloy blank to oxygen-containing produce second phase ions which can reduce porosity and improve the strength of alloy. Besides, the second phase particle dispersion distribution will have dispersion strengthening to alloy and to enhance alloy properties. ZrC or TiC adding can significantly improve the high temperature strength of the alloy and to promote the high-temperature process of alloy tensile the dimple formation. So that change the high temperature fracture mode form mixture mode of transgranular cleavage and dimple fracture to dimple fracture mode. On the other hand, the same amount ZrC more effective than TiC to increase the relative density and room temperature and high-temperature strength of the alloy.
