The strengthen way of titanium zirconium molybdenum (TZM) alloy mainly solution strengthening, second phase strengthening and deformation strengthening. The solution strengthening which is by dissolve a small amount of titanium (Ti), zirconium (Zr) and other alloying elements in the molybdenum (Mo) matrix to make lattice distortion, and the greater the size difference between the solvent and solute atoms, and strengthen the better. After a series of studies have found that in the solution strengthening effect the Zr is the most obvious, Hf and Ti are followed. This is because the atomic size factor difference of Zr-Mo is +14.3, while the factor difference of Zr-Hf and Zr-Ti were +12.9 and +4.4. Where you can konw Zr-Mo atoms are larger than Zr-Hf and Zr-Ti’s size factor difference, so the better solution strengthening results. Wherein the carbon (C) and Mo’s size factor difference is -34.5, but due to the solid solubility of C in molybdenum is extremely low and solution ineffective, therefore are not considered. Other scholars believe that when during the solution strengthening, Zr content about 0.12 percent is best, and Ti content about 0.45%the best, but in reality to be more added.
