As a refractory metals, molybdenum has a high melting point, high boiling point, high hardness and high temperature strength, but also has excellent electrical and thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion coefficient, get in aerospace, chemical metallurgy and other fields widely applications. However, molybdenum is easily oxidized at high temperatures, the recrystallization temperature is low, and prone to brittle fracture after crystallization. Thus limiting the scope of application and processing performance of molybdenum and alloys.
Alloying is an important way to strengthen molybdenum. Add other alloying elements in the molybdenum substrate to form a solid solution to improve the performance of the molybdenum is called solid-solution strengthening. Solid solution strengthening molybdenum alloy mainly, includes TZM alloy TZC alloy, Mo-Ti alloy. TZM alloy which is a relatively mature molybdenum alloy prepared in two ways vacuum melting and powder metallurgy. Powder metallurgy is a common way in actual production which join Ti and Zr, in molybdenum to get TZM blank, and then a series of high-temperature hot-rolled, cold-rolled and annealed to be finished after stress. TZM alloy due to its good mechanical properties at high temperatures, it is widely used in fish of the engine with the valve body, rocket nozzles, heat exchangers, tube cathode, grid, and many other fields.
