iPhone 5S With Dual LED Flash

Coupled with new reports about the iPhone 5S in multiple colors is another claim that the new iPhone will finally get the dual LED flash that has been rumored for literally over two years now. Charles wrote about it on June 23rd, 2011, back when we are all still a lot younger. Now, Macotakara is saying that the 5S is going to get the dual LED flash treatment. According to MacRumors:
The design of the iPhone 5S is rumored to be largely the same as the iPhone 5, but Macotakara’s sources say that it will sport a dual-LED flash and that the rear microphone hole will become circular instead of pill shaped, placed between the camera and the flash. Before the launch of the iPhone 4S rumors suggested that it too might ship with a dual flash, but that did not happen.
That’s right — it didn’t happen on the iPhone 4S, so why would it happen on the iPhone 5S? S-model iPhones are refreshes, and any hardware that gets upgraded on them has to fit into the chassis and form factor of the previous iPhone. Otherwise, it isn’t a refresh. Anna’s piece on the crystal sapphire home button with fingerprint scanner and Miss P’s post on the flexible screen rumors are at least somewhat plausible, since both could ostensibly fit into the existing iPhone 5 design.
However, a duel LED flash would mean that Apple would need to retool construction of the rear plate, and drill a new hole. This would mean that the company’s current stockpile of iPhone 5 rear plates — which, according to Anna’s report, they seem to be hoarding in order to bolster a refreshed iPhone 5S production push — would need to be retro-drilled (I made that word up).
The addition of a duel LED flash is something that I think could appear in a future iPhone — just not on a refresh. (Excerpt from iPhone 5 News Blog)
