Molybdenum prices in Europe dropped to a four-year low this week, mostly due to diminishing demand from the stainless steelmakers, and are expected to fall further as industrial activity slows during the summer.
Molybdenum is used in the manufacture of structural steel, stainless steel, chemicals and tools. It can withstand extreme temperatures, which makes it useful in manufacturing products such as aircraft parts, motors and electrical contacts.
Molybdenum prices reflect conditions mostly in the stainless steel sector, which is battling with global overcapacity, poor demand due to slow economic growth and falling prices.
