A protest in the small city of Shifang in Sichuan Province against a planned molybdenum copper plant turned bloody when the government mobilized riot police to confront protesters.

The protesters held homemade signs and placards. “Save Shifang, Give Us Back Our Environment,” read one sign, and “Molybdenum Copper Plant, Get Out of Shifang,” read another T-shirt. Several photos show injured protesters and their wounds.

And after the protest, local government of Shifang decided to stop this molybdenum copper plan because they have already knew citizens have different opinions for the plan.

Xue Guangyong, the mayor of Shifang gave his words: “the government of Shifang will insist to supervise entire process of Molybdenum Copper Project. And will not allow putting into production until the level environment protection can reach standards.”

In the same day the local government of Shifang issued a notice to make sure the stability of society, and decided to dispatch officials to departments involves in each level to hear the voices from citizens.
