Molybdenum market update on October 14, 2026

China’s molybdenum market maintained a weak operation, mainly manifested in declining mainstream product prices, limited transactions, and industry insiders have weak expectations for the short-term market outlook.

Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate and molybdenum oxide decreased by approximately RMB 10/mtu, and the prices of ferromolybdenum and molybdates decreased by approximately RMB 1,000/ton.

According to Chinatungsten online, downstream demand falling short of expectations, steel enterprises continuously suppressing ferromolybdenum prices, the decline in international molybdenum prices, coupled with the current relatively high molybdenum prices, are multiple factors jointly leading to increased panic sentiment among some suppliers and strengthened willingness to take profits. However, due to strong production cost support and the rapid development of downstream molybdenum industries, the downside room for product prices is relatively small. Today, the international molybdenum oxide price was approximately USD 33.2/lb Mo, and the European ferromolybdenum price was approximately USD 77.0/kg Mo.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association shows that in late September 2026, key monitored steel enterprises produced a total of 20.56 million tons of steel products, with an average daily output of 2.056 million tons, increased by 10.9% month-on-month in daily output. Among them, the daily output of steel products in Northeast China increased by 24,000 tons, in North China increased by 84,000 tons, in East China increased by 67,000 tons, in Northwest China increased by 4,000 tons, in Southwest China increased by 4,000 tons, and in Central South China increased by 18,000 tons.
