Molybdenum market update on September 10, 2026

The domestic molybdenum market as a whole maintained a sideways operation. Against the background of tight spot supply of raw materials and downstream maintaining rigid demand, the bargaining space for products was relatively small, and new orders were limited.

Today, the transaction prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium heptamolybdate were carried out around RMB 5,440/ton-degree, RMB 341,000/ton, and RMB 333,000/ton, respectively.

On the molybdenum concentrate market, the overall atmosphere of holding back sales and expecting price increases was strong, with relatively few spot transactions. International molybdenum prices continued to rise, supply increments were limited, and ferromolybdenum manufacturers had good inquiry enthusiasm, resulting in generally low willingness of suppliers to make price concessions. Previously, the international molybdenum oxide price was approximately USD 33.5/lb Mo, and the European ferromolybdenum price was approximately USD 76.8/kg Mo.

On the ferromolybdenum market, overall operations were under pressure. Molybdenum concentrate prices remained at relatively high levels, and steel tender performance was flat, making intermediate smelting enterprises cautious in quoting. Recently, steel enterprises that have entered tenders for ferromolybdenum include Erzhong (Deyang) Heavy Equipment, Wu'an Xinxing Ductile Iron Pipe, Fushun Special Steel, Zhongnan Steel, Hunan Valin Hengyang Steel, Angang Steel, among others.

On the molybdenum chemical and its products market, the market condition remained stable for the time being. Against the background of a weak balance in supply and demand, the prices of ammonium molybdate, molybdenum powder, and molybdenum bars fluctuated within a narrow range, with relatively few actual transactions.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association shows that in late August 2026, key monitored steel enterprises produced a total of 22.09 million tons of steel products, with an average daily output of 2.008 million tons, increased by 4.8% month-on-month in daily output. Among them, the daily output of steel products in Northeast China increased by 29,000 tons, in North China increased by 16,000 tons, in East China increased by 21,000 tons, in Northwest China increased by 6,000 tons, in Central South China increased by 21,000 tons, and in Southwest China decreased by 1,000 tons.
