Molybdenum market update on September 3, 2026

The overall domestic molybdenum market maintained stable operation. With traders having low enthusiasm for entering the market, prices of most products fluctuated within a narrow range, and actual transaction pace was slow.

Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium heptamolybdate were consolidating at around RMB 5,440/ton-degree, RMB 341,000/ton, and RMB 333,000/ton, respectively. Recently, steel enterprises that have entered tenders for ferromolybdenum include Wuhu Xinxing Ductile Iron Pipe, Angang Steel, Xinyu Iron and Steel, Jiangsu Yonggang, Hunan Lianyuan, Dalian Special Steel, among others.

According to CTIA GROUP, affected by factors such as frequent natural disasters, relatively high production costs, and stricter environmental supervision, the production pace of some molybdenum mining enterprises has slowed down. Coupled with a large number of outstanding undelivered orders and downstream maintaining rigid demand, holders' willingness to reduce prices for shipments has further decreased. However, due to strong price-cutting sentiment from downstream and limited driving effect from the international molybdenum market, it is relatively difficult for product prices to rise again.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association shows that in July 2026, national stainless steel crude steel production was 3.6271 million tons, decreased by 0.60% month-on-month. Among them, Cr-Ni series stainless steel production was 1.8760 million tons, decreased by 98,300 tons month-on-month, down 4.98%; Cr-Mn series stainless steel production was 1.0285 million tons, increased by 79,300 tons month-on-month, up 8.35%; Cr series stainless steel production was 671,800 tons, decreased by 2,800 tons month-on-month, down 0.42%; and duplex stainless steel production was 50,846 tons, decreased by 155 tons year-on-year, down 0.30%.
