Molybdenum market update on August 24, 2026

On Monday, the overall domestic molybdenum market maintained a high-level stable operation, mainly manifested in prices of most products showing no significant changes for the time being, for example, the quotations for molybdenum concentrate and ferromolybdenum were around RMB 5,470/ton-degree and RMB 344,000/ton, respectively.

According to CTIA GROUP, factors such as continuously tight spot market supply, good downstream inquiries, and stable international molybdenum prices supported suppliers to maintain firm quotations. However, the current molybdenum price is at a relatively high level within the year and the macroeconomic situation is changeable, jointly leading to a decline in downstream users' willingness to consume, with relatively few spot transactions. Since the beginning of this year, the price of 40-45% molybdenum concentrate has increased by approximately RMB 1,570/ton-degree, up 40.26%, and the price of ferromolybdenum has increased by approximately RMB 91,000/ton, up 35.97%.

In terms of news, data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that from January to July 2026, investment in the mining industry increased by 3.3% year-on-year, driving industrial investment growth by 0.2 percentage points. Investment in equipment manufacturing increased by 1.1%, driving industrial investment growth by 0.4 percentage points. Among them, investment in railway, shipbuilding, aerospace, and other transport equipment manufacturing increased by 18.7%; investment in computer, communication, and other electronic equipment manufacturing increased by 7.8%, with the growth rate accelerating by 1.3 percentage points compared with the first half of the year.
