Molybdenum market update on August 13, 2026

The overall domestic molybdenum market maintained a high and strengthening operation, mainly manifested in good sentiment among traders, slight price increases of mainstream molybdenum products, and acceptable spot transactions.

According to CTIA GROUP, the main reasons for this price increase include: some raw material suppliers actively raised prices for shipments, tight spot supply of raw materials, rising steel tender prices, and the continued warming of the international molybdenum market. Today, steel enterprises' procurement prices for ferromolybdenum slowly rose to RMB 336,000/ton; the international molybdenum oxide price was around USD 33.5/lb Mo.

Up to now, the total volume of ferromolybdenum tenders this month is approximately 7,500 tons. Recently, steel enterprises that have entered tenders for ferromolybdenum include Jiangsu Zhongtian, Hunan Valin Xiangtan Steel, Shougang Jingtang, Fengbao Special Steel, Zhongnan Steel, and Xinyu Iron and Steel. Among them, Zhongnan Steel tendered 32 tons with a delivery date of September 5; Xinyu Iron and Steel tendered 66 tons with a delivery date of August 14.

In terms of news, the "15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development of Luanchuan County" proposes to build a nationally important industrial base for new tungsten-molybdenum-fluorine materials. Based on the advantages of mineral resources, further extend the industrial chain, strengthen the comprehensive utilization of tailings resources, improve product technology content, enrich the product system, gather and attract related enterprises, and accelerate the construction of a high-end new tungsten-molybdenum-fluorine materials industrial base with the advanced manufacturing development zone as the main carrier. Continuously enhance innovation-driven capabilities, and build a national-level tungsten-molybdenum-fluorine new materials processing center, product trading center, and strategic resource reserve center. Integrate new tungsten-molybdenum-fluorine materials with intelligent manufacturing organically, create a higher-level tungsten-molybdenum-fluorine new materials industrial cluster, and shape new industrial advantages.
