Molybdenum market update on July 20, 2026

On Monday, the overall domestic molybdenum market showed a high and strengthening trend. With stable downstream demand and tight spot supply of raw materials, suppliers generally had strong willingness to hold back sales and support prices, supporting molybdenum prices to move higher.

Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium heptamolybdate were approximately RMB 5,320/ton-degree, RMB 339,000/ton, and RMB 330,000/ton, respectively. Recently, steel enterprises that have entered tenders for ferromolybdenum include Wugang Xiangzhong, Hebei Puyang Iron and Steel, Shougang Jingtang, Shougang Guigang, Wu'an Xinxing Ductile Iron Pipe, Dongbei Special Steel, etc., with tender prices around RMB 332,000/ton.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association shows that in early July 2026, the steel product inventory of key monitored steel enterprises was 16.77 million tons, increased by 490,000 tons compared with the previous ten-day period, up 3.0%; increased by 2.63 million tons compared with the beginning of the year, up 18.6%; decreased by 100,000 tons compared with the same ten-day period of the previous month, down 0.6%; increased by 1.70 million tons compared with the same ten-day period of last year, up 11.3%; increased by 1.37 million tons compared with the same ten-day period of the year before last, up 8.9%. By region, steel product inventory in Northeast China increased by 230,000 tons, in East China increased by 300,000 tons, in Central South China increased by 310,000 tons, in North China decreased by 150,000 tons, in Northwest China decreased by 200,000 tons, and in Southwest China remained basically flat compared with the previous ten-day period.
