Molybdenum market update on June 22, 2026

On Monday, the overall domestic molybdenum market maintained stable operation. Against the background of interweaving bullish and bearish factors, downstream users generally maintained rigid demand procurement, upstream suppliers generally had a strong willingness to hold back goods and firm up prices, product prices showed no significant fluctuations for the time being, and new orders were limited.

Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium tetramolybdate are approximately RMB 5,180/ton-degree, RMB 328,000/ton, and RMB 316,000/ton, respectively. According to CTIA GROUP, affected by factors such as recent high temperature and rainy weather as well as relatively high production costs, capacity release at some molybdenum mining enterprises has been restricted. Coupled with the good development trend of downstream molybdenum industries, market holders have even lower willingness to reduce prices for shipments.

In terms of news, data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that from January to May 2026, China's crude steel output was 415.53 million tons, decreased by 3.9% year-on-year; the added value of the ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry increased by 1.8% year-on-year; steel product output was 592.99 million tons, decreased by 1.5% year-on-year; pig iron output was 354.71 million tons, decreased by 3.1% year-on-year. In May, China's crude steel output was 84.36 million tons, decreased by 2.7% year-on-year; the added value of the ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry increased by 1.6% year-on-year; steel product output was 123.03 million tons, decreased by 2.8% year-on-year; pig iron output was 72.97 million tons, decreased by 2.6% year-on-year.
