Molybdenum market update on April 10, 2026

The domestic molybdenum market has generally maintained a positive trend. In the context of strong downstream demand, tight spot supply, and a complex macroeconomic situation, the sellers' market holds a significant advantage: most suppliers' quotations remain firm, with some slightly increasing.

In the molybdenum concentrate market, the trading atmosphere has been active, mainly due to higher sales willingness from molybdenum mining companies and downstream users' reasonable acceptance of high-priced supplies. On April 8, a mine in Luoyang, Henan, sold 810 tons of molybdenum concentrate with a Mo content of 45% or higher at a transaction price of RMB 4,535–4,550 per ton-degree.

In the ferro-molybdenum market, the overall market has continued under pressure. Driven by the increase in steel procurement volumes and prices, as well as the rise in molybdenum concentrate prices, the price of ferro-molybdenum has broken the RMB 290,000 per ton mark. Today, the steel procurement price is about RMB 286,000 per ton.

In the molybdenum chemicals and products market, there is a strong atmosphere of wait-and-see. With insufficient upward momentum in the upstream market and moderate demand from end users, stockholders' quotations remain relatively stable. Currently, the prices for sodium molybdate, ammonium heptamolybdate, and molybdenum powder are approximately RMB 204,000 per ton, RMB 282,000 per ton, and RMB 540 per kilogram, respectively.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) shows that in late March 2026, key steel enterprises produced a total of 21.92 million tons of crude steel, with an average daily production of 1.992 million tons, a decrease of 1.7% from the previous month. Regionally, the daily crude steel production decreased by 0.04 million tons in the Northeast, 0.27 million tons in East China, 0.03 million tons in Northwest China, 0.06 million tons in Southwest China, 0.05 million tons in Central South China, while North China saw an increase of 0.10 million tons in daily crude steel production.
