The domestic molybdenum market has seen an overall upward shift in prices, with molybdenum concentrate increasing by approximately RMB 90 per ton-degree, ferromolybdenum rising by about RMB 2,000 per ton, and molybdenum oxide up by around RMB 90 per ton-degree.

Under this market condition, the trading activity remains relatively strong, and market participants have significant confidence in the outlook.

In the molybdenum concentrate market, the general sentiment is one of holding back and expecting higher prices. With active downstream inquiries and tight spot supply of molybdenum concentrate, mainstream molybdenum mining companies have raised their prices significantly. On April 7, a mining company in Jiangxi sold 40%-45% grade molybdenum concentrate at a price of RMB 4,525 per ton-degree.

In the ferromolybdenum market, steel companies have gradually entered the bidding process, and the difficulty in sourcing low-priced materials has supported suppliers' confidence to increase prices. However, the relatively low steel bidding prices have somewhat limited the upward potential for ferromolybdenum prices.

In the molybdenum chemicals and products market, driven by the price increase of raw materials, prices of molybdate, molybdenum powder, and molybdenum rods have also risen. However, new orders remain limited, mainly due to end customers maintaining only essential procurement.

In terms of news, the International Molybdenum Association data shows that global molybdenum production reached 672.6 million pounds in 2025. China, as the largest producer, saw a year-on-year increase of 1% to 302.1 million pounds; South America, the second-largest producer, had a slight increase of 0.5% to 175.6 million pounds; North America, the third-largest producer, experienced a 17% increase to 133.7 million pounds. On the consumption side, global molybdenum consumption reached 671.8 million pounds in 2025. China, the largest consumer, saw a year-on-year increase of 9% to 337.8 million pounds; Europe consumed 114.3 million pounds, down 7% year-on-year; Japan consumed 42.6 million pounds, down 3%; and the CIS countries consumed 18.3 million pounds, a decrease of 12%.
