The domestic molybdenum market is generally experiencing a pattern of negative decline and consolidation.

Amidst the tension between steel companies' aggressive price-cutting and suppliers' reluctance to lower prices, market trading volume remains moderate, and the growth rate of orders is slow. In the short term, the focus is on the shipment activities of molybdenum mining enterprises.

In the molybdenum concentrate market, the overall situation is under pressure. When steel bidding prices fall below expectations and the international molybdenum market remains stable, suppliers tend to maintain firm quotations; recently, a mine in Yunnan sold molybdenum concentrate at 3,495 yuan/ton. In the ferromolybdenum market, there's a relatively positive buying and selling atmosphere. Despite steel companies' hesitance to purchase high-priced ferromolybdenum and the scarcity of low-priced options, there are numerous inquiries from downstream users, boosting the confidence of intermediate smelting companies in setting prices. In the market for molybdenum chemicals and their products, a strong wait-and-see attitude prevails. With end-users generally sticking to rigid demand purchases and a supportive price environment from the raw material market, most holders quote prices more rationally.

Regarding market news, according to the China Iron and Steel Association, early February 2025 data shows that the steel inventory at key steel enterprises was 16.21 million tons, an increase of 5.6% from the previous ten days, 31.0% from the start of the year, 28.8% from the previous month's same period, 0.5% from the same period last year, and a decrease of 10.1% from two years ago. Regionally, steel inventory increased as follows: Northeast China by 40,000 tons, North China by 90,000 tons, East China by 410,000 tons, Northwest China by 140,000 tons, Southwest China by 40,000 tons, and Central and South China by 150,000 tons.
