China Molybdenum Price in August 2022

In August 2022, the price of molybdenum products in China showed a pattern of fall after rise. Specifically, at the beginning of August, affected by factors such as declined price and quantity of steel tender, high import volume of molybdenum raw materials and the low international molybdenum price, the price of molybdenum concentrate and ferro molybdenum fell to about 2,320 yuan/ton and 152,000 yuan/ton respectively, and there were limited transactions at that time.

In mid-to-early August, due to the rising price of steel, the limited production capacity of molybdenum mining enterprises, the decrease in the import of molybdenum raw materials and the rapid rise in international molybdenum prices, most molybdenum chemical companies raised their quotations significantly, and the prices of molybdenum concentrate and ferromolybdenum increased significantly. They jumped to around 2,560 yuan/ton and 167,000 yuan/ton respectively. In this context, suppliers' awareness of profit-taking has also generally increased, which has led to an increase in transaction volume.

In the middle and late August, due to the sharp increase in the price of molybdenum raw materials in the first half of this month, the fear of heights among downstream users has also increased. In addition, due to the influence of power cuts in many places, some steel mills have stopped production and maintenance, resulting in a decrease in molybdenum demand. This is the main reason for China molybdenum price to drop slightly from a high level.

At the end of August, the domestic molybdenum market as a whole showed a stabilizing and rebounding pattern. The main reasons were: due to the frequent extreme weather and the shortage of electricity in many places, the production capacity of many molybdenum manufacturers was limited to a certain extent; as the "Golden Nine Silver Ten" approached, downstream users received goods The willingness has increased significantly, which has played a great role in boosting the recovery of the molybdenum market again. At present, the prices of molybdenum concentrate and ferromolybdenum have risen to about 2,650 yuan/ton and 175,000 yuan/ton respectively.

In August 2022, the average prices of major domestic molybdenum products fell month-on-month. Among them, the average price of 40%-50% molybdenum concentrate was 2,498 yuan/ton, a decrease of 5.27% month-on-month and a year-on-year increase of 2.21%; the average price of ferromolybdenum was 163,696 yuan/ton, a decrease of 5.17% month-on-month and 1.71% year-on-year. 

The average price of molybdenum oxide was 2,598 yuan/ton, a decrease of 5.11% month-on-month and a year-on-year increase of 1.37%; the average price of sodium molybdate was 115,174 yuan/ton, a decrease of 8.00% month-on-month and a year-on-year increase of 8.38%; the average price of ammonium tetramolybdate was 115,174 yuan/ton The average price of ammonium heptamolybdate was 167,652 yuan/ton, down 5.69% month-on-month and up 1.89% year-on-year; the average price of molybdenum powder was 320 yuan/kg, The month-on-month decrease was about 6.98%, and the year-on-year increase was about 1.59%; the average price of molybdenum bars was 331 yuan/kg, a month-on-month decrease of about 7.02% and a year-on-year decrease of about 1.49%.
