Molybdenum Powder Price - April 1, 2022

China molybdenum price remain stable and strong in the week ended on Friday April 1, 2022 affected by active market trading and positive views of participants towards the outlook. 

At present, the prices of molybdenum concentrate and ferromolybdenum are basically around $440.3/mtu and $29,032.3/ton, and molybdenum powder price rose to $54.4/kg and ammonium heptamolybdate price rose to $28,064.5/ton.

From the perspective of positive factors, affected by the repeated outbreaks of epidemics in China’s Liaoning, Jilin, Henan and other regions, the production and logistics transportation of local molybdenum production enterprises have been disrupted to a certain extent, resulting in the difficulty of increasing the spot supply of molybdenum raw materials in the market and the failure of some buyers to receive them on time. 

In addition, the coming of April, steel companies have concentrated on bidding for ferromolybdenum, which has prompted the whole molybdenum market to be reluctant to sell and the bullish sentiment has increased. According to Chinatungsten Online, the steel bidding market performed very well in March, with a total bidding volume of 16,000 tons of ferromolybdenum, and the average bidding price was around $28,387.1/ton.

From the perspective of negative factors, firstly, with the rising price of molybdenum raw materials, the fear of heights among downstream users has also increased. In addition, the price of auxiliary materials such as cobalt remains high, which will seriously affect the profitability of buyers. Therefore, a few industry players still have certain concerns about the market outlook. Second, due to the continued spread of the global epidemic and the greater external geo-risks, the development of the molybdenum downstream industry has slowed down slightly, which will also reduce the consumption of molybdenum products to a certain extent.

In terms of news: In January and February 2022, my country imported 1.252 million tons of steel and 955,000 tons respectively. Among them, Japan and South Korea are the main sources of steel in my country, with a total import volume of 1.277 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3.0%; the import volume of the 27 EU countries and the United Kingdom decreased by 23.8% year-on-year to 140,000 tons.
