China Molybdenum Price - Feb. 18, 2022

This week, China molybdenum price showed a slight upward trend as a whole. Affected by the mismatch between supply and demand and the considerable price of molybdenum products, buyers and sellers are more motivated to enter the market, so there are more orders. 

However, some industry players predict that the molybdenum market may enter a horizontal trend in the short term.

From the perspective of the supply side, first, due to the high pressure on environmental protection and the serious impact of the epidemic in some areas, the production of some ferromolybdenum enterprises has been limited, resulting in a shortage of ferromolybdenum supply, which in turn led the entire molybdenum market to rise. The transaction prices of molybdenum concentrate and ferromolybdenum broke through 2,500 yuan/ton and 170,000 yuan/ton, respectively; second, the international molybdenum price fell slightly, which is conducive to the increase in the import of domestic molybdenum raw materials, but it will restrain the domestic molybdenum market from heating up.

From the perspective of demand, first, in the second week after the Spring Festival, the production of most downstream enterprises returned to normal, so the amount of molybdenum chemical products was relatively large, which prompted the price of molybdenum to rise; secondly, with the increase in the price of molybdenum products, the speed of steel enterprises and end customers entering the market for inquiries and purchases has slowed down.

In terms of news: In 2021, China's non-ferrous metal production will maintain steady growth. The output of ten commonly used non-ferrous metals will be 64.543 million tons. Non-ferrous metal enterprises above designated size will achieve a record high profit of 364.48 billion yuan. Fixed asset investment will resume positive growth, and international competitiveness will continue. The improvement has achieved a good start in the "14th Five-Year Plan".
