Molybdenum market quotation in China: ferro molybdenum, molybdenum oxide and molybdenum concentrate prices are unchanged from the previous trading day on cautious sentiment of both buyers and sellers. The short-term market is expected to continue this trend.
In the molybdenum concentrate market, the fundamentals are relatively good. The growth of molybdenum concentrate inventories becomes slow due to stricter environmental protection policies, power limits in some provinces and the upcoming Chinese Spring Festival holiday.
In the ferromolybdenum market, the buying and selling atmosphere is still good. This is mainly due to the increased enthusiasm of steel companies to bid for ferromolybdenum and the relatively strong price of molybdenum concentrate.However, the current price of ferromolybdenum has not risen significantly.
The molybdenum chemical and its products market is tepid, and product prices are mainly affected by the relationship between supply and demand. The end customers basically continue the mode of just-demand procurement, while the upstream merchants have a mentality to keep firm offers.
According to customs data, the total amount of molybdenum concentrate imported by China in 2020 is 59,385 tons. Among them, Liaoning Province purchased a large amount (28,746 tons), accounting for about 48.41% of the total. The total amount of molybdenum concentrate sold from Armenia to Liaoning was 11,999 tons. The area with the second largest amount of imported molybdenum concentrate is Tianjin, with a total of 17,326 tons, of which the total amount of re-exports is 2,506 tons, and part of the molybdenum concentrate is exported to Thailand for processing. In addition, Sichuan, Shaanxi and other regions also purchase imported molybdenum concentrates.
