International Molybdenum Association’s Annual General Meeting to Be Host in Korea

South Korea’s SeAH Materials & Solution that produces and supplies molybdenum products said Tuesday it will host the International Molybdenum Association (IMOA)’s annual general meeting for the first time in Korea. 

This year’s 30rd general meeting will be held on Sep 2 to 6 at the Hotel Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas in the Gangnam district and Han River in Seoul. About 200 participants from 60 companies of 30 countries are expected to attend, it added. 

Molybdenum is a key material added to steel to enhance the strength. About 86% of molybdenum produced is used in metallurgy, with the rest used in chemical applications. The estimated global use is structural steel 35%, stainless steel 25%, chemicals 14%, tool & high-speed steels 9%, cast iron 6%, molybdenum elemental metal 6%, and superalloys 5%.

At this year’s event, Molybdenum experts from global leading mining firms like Climax, Codelco and Glencore will share their opinion for better understanding of the Korean market’s role in the global molybdenum industry. 

Various sessions will also be open during the event including one for miners and traders who find new potential customers. 

SeAH M&S hopes the upcoming event will help both the company and the country raise the presence in the global molybdenum market. Last year, it successfully tapped into the U.S. and Europe, and its exports reached over $100 million thanks to higher demand for its mainstay alloy steel products.
