With Excess Production Capacity in Domestic, Molybdenum Concentrate Reserve System Is Urgent to Establish

The annual output of molybdenum concentrate is around 100000 tons in recent three years, and it has reached to 111000 tons in 2013, which accounted for 42% of the world output, said Chen jiabin, director of economic management department of China Economic Research Institute of Lland and Resources. In recent years, the consumption of molybdenum concentrate is around 70000 tons with excess capacity for several years.

In March 2014, the ministry of commerce has confirmed that the lawsuit rosed by United States, Japan, European Union against China's rare earths, tungsten, molybdenum trade was failed, and china have to cancel the related measures about export tariffs, quotas to rare earths, tungsten, molybdenum . And molybdenum is an important metal, which is so-called war metal, is widely used in metallurgical machinery, electrical defence, aerospace and other fields.

Chen jiabin think the production should be controlled in mining, industry consolidation, environmental protection, production management and other aspects, and molybdenum concentrate reserve system should be established. But at the moment there is no substantive action about molybdenum concentrate reserves.
