Molybdenum oxide (MoO3) nanocrystals are successfully synthesized by hydrothermal method. The reaction temperature is maintained at 210°C.
The reaction duration is varied (3, 6, 9 and 12 h) and their influence on structural, morphological and optical properties is systematically studied.
The results found that the crystallite size is increased with reaction durations. From XRD and TEM results, all the samples exhibit pure and single phase orthorhombic MoO3 structure.
TGA analysis shows that there is no prominent weight loss and an exothermic peak confirms that the resultant MoO3 products are highly stable orthorhombic phase.
The band gap values are estimated and are found to decrease with increase in crystallite size of the MoO3 material.
