Iron-molybdenum sintered alloys belong to a new generation of materials widely applied in the automotive industry. In iron-molybdenum sintered alloys and steels, molybdenum improves the tensile strength and wear resistance of alloys, it also increases their hardenability.
Therefore, structural parts of sintered alloys containing molybdenum are designed for a heat or heat-and-chemical treatment. Moreover, if boron is added to sintered molybdenum alloys, it activates a sintering process and causes their considerable consolidation.
Some experiments were conducted to obtain structural parts using a special P/M technology ,elementary powders of iron, molybdenum and boron are mixed together, compacted and sintered. Sintered molybdenum steels, alloyed by 0.2 wtpercent were manufactured.
