Plate Molybdenum Electrode

plate molybdenum electrodes

Plate molybdenum electrode can withstand high current density, commonly used in the flow channel or melting tank and the heating of electrode is uniform, so generally do not produce strong convection. Besides, it has little erosion of the electrode bricks than rod electrode.

When the plate electrode is used in the melting pool, the control effect of the liquid flow is different from the traditional hotspot control. The main composition of plate electrode power line is parallel electric field, so the electric energy release between the two electrode plates is uniform. Further, if there has hotspots on the plate electrode melting furnace, which is not a point, but a region. Melting tank plate electrode structure is made of molybdenum plate and molybdenum rod connection and the tail is high temperature alloy which is for conductive and covers with water jacket. Molybdenum plate thickness should be a function of furnace age and melting glass varieties and the thickness choice should balance to the kiln refractory life.

Plate electrode during operation should also attention to the following points:
1. During operation, the electrodes can be covered with low melting glass or chemically stabilized gases (eg nitrogen).
2. Molybdenum plate electrode can only be installed by cold way. In the soda-lime glass melting furnace, the plate electrode which has protective layer can cover with broken glass. In the hard glass, the electrode can protect by nitrogen (below 1200 ℃considered safe). According to the practical situation, molybdenum electrode (plate or bar) cover with high borosilicate glass is also feasible.
3. Electrode structure must be solid, so plate and rod electrodes in the molten glass can maintain good conductive state. If structure loosening will make the connection point between the plate electrode and the rod electrode to be eroded, causing the plate electrode to fall off, so that the glass convection and temperature distribution will change and aggravate the loss of electrode.  Eventually the material will lead from the gap of electrode and refractory brick.
4. In addition, should attention to keep the molybdenum plate parallel to the bottom of the tank.
