After sintering, when the carbon content of TZM alloy is 0.03%, the(Ti+Zr)/C atomic ratio of alloy is 4:1. But because powder metallurgy is a predominantly solid diffusion reaction process so mixed powder exist structural heterogeneity. In the small microcell area, there are bigger bias between microcosmic and macroscopic’s(Ti+Zr)/C atomic ratio. Because the composition is uneven so the sintering process will more complicate than smelting process.
From the table 2’s result, Ti+C=TiC, this reaction can automatic employ exothermic reaction ,but with the temperature increase, the work function of reaction decrease value decrease slowly than before, form 1000K -172.97kJ·mol-1 decrease to 2200K -153.42kJ·mol-1. On the other hand, form the table 3 we can found the reaction of Mo+2C=Mo2C with temperature increase, the system work function from 1000k -49.92kJ·mol-1 decrease to 2200k -24.89kJ·mol-1. Comparing these two study data we can know that TZM alloy at under1000K~2200K temperature will produce Mo2C and TiC. And comparing with TiC and Mo2C produce TiC the work function decrease more than Mo2C, so it will trend to produce TiC.
