Pure molybdenum has good high temperature strength and creep resistance, low thermal expansion coefficient, thermal conductivity, which make it be widely used in electronics, aerospace and energy industries. But pure molybdenum’s room temperature brittleness, low intensity, low recrystallization temperature limit its scope. By adding a certain amount of alloying elements, such as carbon, rhenium, hafnium, titanium, zirconium and rare earth elements can effectively improve the molybdenum ductility at room temperature, so as to improve its high temperature strength. TZM alloy is one of the most important molybdenum alloys.
TZM alloy strengthening include: Firstly, part of the solution of the above elements are formed in the solid solution strengthening molybdenum; secondly, these elements and carbon combine to generate the dispersed second phase - the carbide phase, a second phase strengthening;Thirdly, like non-ferrous metals, strengthen TZM alloy by the deformation or heat treatment; Fourthly TZM alloy oxygen content also plays a very important role in the performance of the material .Effectively controlling the oxygen content is another way of TZM alloy strengthening.
