The development of low carbon micro-molybdenum alloy plays an important role. Add 0.1% to 0.3% molybdenum can be refined acicular ferrite grain structure, and enhance other alloying elements obtained from the precipitation hardening effect.
Intensive heat treatment is not necessary, molybdenum low carbon and low alloy steels can get 450 ~ 600 MPa (65 ~ 85 ksi) high yield strength. Since the plastic brittle transition degrees as low as -60 ℃, these materials were used to build a large oil and gas fields leading to a very distant pipe. Thinner size molybdenum-containing high-strength low-alloy steel has good formability, their high strength / weight ratio makes it ideal for automotive component materials.
