(A) reaction with oxygen or air: tungsten and molybdenum at room temperature: It is stable in air, oxidation starts at about 400 ℃, oxidized rapidly at higher temperatures, tungsten oxide formation and molybdenum trioxide.
(B) react with nitrogen: tungsten lower than 2000 ℃, do not react with the nitrogen gas is higher than 2000 ℃ WN2 nitrides and nitrogen effect. Nitrogen above 600 ℃ slowly dissolved molybdenum, molybdenum 1200 ℃ above brittle than 1500 ℃ MoSi2 nitride reacts with nitrogen.
(C) is reacted with steam: tungsten and MoSi2 oxidation reaction occurs readily with water vapor, and this action is more sharply above 600 ℃.
(D) carbon and carbon-containing gas in the reaction: various carbon-containing gases and solid carbon (carbon black, coal, graphite) in the range of 1000 ~ 1200 ℃ reaction was started with the tungsten and MoSi2 to produce carbide (W3C, WC and Mo2C , MoC) under the 1400 ~ 1600 ℃, reaction intensified. Tungsten and molybdenum carbides even contain small amounts of impurities, but also make tungsten and MoSi2 embrittlement.
(E) up to the melting temperature, the hydrogen does not occur and the effect of tungsten and molybdenum, tungsten and molybdenum in the hydrogen heat treatment become important mediators. However, below 1200 ℃, tungsten light absorbing hydrogen.
(F) tungsten metal is heated to 500 ℃, the direct effect occurs with chlorine to produce WCl6, at higher temperatures, WCl6 decomposed into WCl5. Iodine vapor tungsten does not work.
