Molybdenum disulfide is the most common natural form of molybdenum, used as a lubricant directly after extraction from ore purification. Since the layered structure of molybdenum disulfide, which is a very effective lubricant. These can be layered on each other slide on each other, allowing the metal surface of the steel surface and the other flow freely, even when the weight is also true, as the bearing surface. Because molybdenum disulfide is formed in the thermal action, having a chemical stability to withstand hot. Small amount of sulfur reacts with the iron sulfide to form a layer of the sulfide layer is compatible with molybdenum disulfide to keep the lubricating film. Molybdenum disulfide is inert to many chemicals and will complete its lubrication under vacuum, and the graphite does not.
Molybdenum disulfide and other solid lubricants compared with many unique properties, including:
● Unlike graphite, molybdenum disulfide, and its low coefficient of friction (0.03 to 0.06), the gas is not caused by the adsorption film or lubricity inherent in it;
● strong affinity for metal;
● has a film forming structure;
● The yield strength of up to 3450 MPa (500 one thousand pounds / square inch);
● have stability in most solvents;
● in the air, has excellent lubricating properties at low temperature 350 ℃ (at 1200 ℃ inert or vacuum)
Sulfur compound solution and the water-soluble molybdenum compound mixed with the lubricating and corrosion resistance and metal cutting fluid molding material. Oil-soluble molybdenum sulfur compounds, such as dithiophosphates and dithiocarbamates, to avoid engine wear, oxidation and corrosion. There are several commercial manufacturers are producing these lubricant additives.
