The world's first developed in Norway Kerner molybdenum mine is the (Knaben) deposits. The mine began mining in 1885, because of the demand for molybdenum is very small, when mining stopped when the mines. Half of the 19th century, the industrial production of molybdenum was first started in the United States, only a few tons of annual output. Since the 20th century, due to increased demand for molybdenum annually, molybdenum mining also has expanded each year, the world's annual production of molybdenum rapid growth, on the eve of World War I increased to around 100t, until the late 1930s reached 10,000 t, the late 1970s to reach 100,000 t.

Chinese molybdenum mine was first discovered in the Qing Dynasty, the eve of the First World War began mining. Was mainly the coastal areas of Fujian and Zhejiang mining is some vein-type molybdenum and South veins of some type associated molybdenum tungsten mine.
