Molybdenite chemical composition of MoS2, there are different types of crystals, hexagonal and sulfide minerals belong to the trigonal system. Was leaden, on the surface, like lead, lead-gray streak of light, strong metallic luster. Usually in the leaf-shaped, scaly aggregates. A very complete basal cleavage. Mohs hardness of about 1-1.5, heavy, up to 5. A flexible sheet. In light sheet, opaque, white to off-white multi-colored and strong heterogeneity. And graphite are similar, but its density, luster strong, lighter in color and streak with graphite phase difference.
Molybdenite molybdenum disulfide, molybdenum is the most important resource. The heating element is used to produce molybdenum filament bracket anode and grid and other electrical and electronic components and the electric furnace. Molybdenite also often contain rhenium and rhenium containing the highest or minerals, and therefore it is the most important mineral extract rhenium. Molybdenite is very soft, even softer than our fingernails yet. They generally small flake or granular, was leaden, with a strong metallic luster.
Identification of characteristics: molybdenite its lead gray, metallic luster, low hardness, very complete cleavage underside, heavy, strong luster, color and streak lighter graphite with a similar distinction; heavier than graphite, but slightly blue color, graphite is slightly brown; in streaks, the molybdenite green streak, but graphite black. Boiling or burning it in nitric acid, molybdenum trioxide can be obtained in the air.
